Franco Guerzoni was born in 1948 in Modena. In the 1970s, he embarked on various non-traditional and often ephemeral artistic practices, highly experimental and close to photography, within a context of strong conceptual influence. During the same years, he began an intense exhibition activity both in Italy and abroad. 

In 2011, his work was included in the Italian Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale. In 2013, Palazzo Pitti organized the retrospective La parete dimenticata. Among his most recent solo exhibitions are Nessun luogo, da nessuna parte. Viaggi randagi con Luigi Ghirri, Triennale di Milano, Milan, 2014; Archeologie senza restauro, MAMbo, Bologna, 2014; Futuruins, Palazzo Fortuny, 2018; L’immagine sottratta, Museo del Novecento, Milan, 2020-2021. In 2022, he participated in the group exhibition Renverser ses jeux at Jeu de Paume, Paris, and later at the Triennale di Milano.
