Hotel

set in an atmosphere of another time, amid the rolling sand dunes silhouetted against a deep blue sea on the south-western coast of Sardinia, the 4 Star Hotel Ecoresort Le Dune Piscinas offers a unique holiday experience

built in grey stone and golden daub, the Ecoresort Le Dune Piscinas Hotel is nestled among Europe’s highest sand dunes, which have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. The impressive tenement is the result of the renovation of a nineteenth-century mining warehouse where Blende and Galena minerals were stored, transported by train from the Naracauli washing plant near Ingurtosu, a once thriving and prosperous mining town that has now fallen into disuse

the resort consists of three buildings joined together by a small square overlooking the sea, and a beautiful internal courtyard paved in eighteenth-century tiles featuring Punic and Roman artefacts

the Hotel’s main building, which can be accessed through a shale stone gallery once used to move mineral-laden wagons out of the mine, is home to the Reception area open 24 hours a day, the American bar with a large adjoining living room that boasts a fine Sardinian stone fireplace, a TV room and 15 Superior double rooms, which can be transformed on request into triple or quadruple rooms

the central building,  once used as a stable for donkeys and horses that pulled the carts up to the loading dock, hosts 11 en-suite Standard Rooms.

the third building, closest to the sea and once a Galena deposit, houses the Master suite on the first floor. The suite offers a panoramic view of the Piscinas beach and dunes. The Restaurant can be found on the ground floor, with its terrace on the sea and Breakfast Room that offers a rich buffet prepared by the hotel chefs with local products of the territory surrounding the Ecoresort

Italy’s Ministry of Culture in 1985 declared the Le Dune Piscinas Hotel and the whole mine complex a National Monument for its particular historical interest and artistic prestige

the surrounding landscape of Costa Verde is characterized by its natural beauty: with its sequence of gorgeous beaches, rocky bays, sand deserts and the typical Mediterranean brush

the surrounding scenery seduces you with its heart-breaking charm: from Ingurtosu, more precisely from the Arch of the Palazzo della Direzione –  built in 1875 by Architect Bornemann, a faithful reproduction of a castle of his home-town,  Thuringia –  you can follow the old mining railway track to the valley floor, where you can still see several wooden and greenstone railway ties and rails corroded by the sea salt

you can drive 7 kilometres along a gravel road through a forest of Holm Oaks and scented Junipers and, in the enchanting silence of a ghostly landscape, it is not hard to meet the Sardinian deer living in the valley, moving occasionally towards the sea

the optimum geographical position of the Ecoresort allows you to easily reach key archaeological sites and natural parks of Southern and Central Sardinia, travelling along some of the most beautiful scenic roads on the Island

treat yourself to a relaxing holiday on the golden Dunes of Piscinas from April 19th to September 2nd
